Q: How do I qualify for home health care under Medicare?

A: You must have a qualifying diagnosis and a doctor’s order for services. You must also be homebound, or normally unable to leave home unassisted. This means that leaving home takes considerable and taxing effort. A person may leave home for medical treatment or short, infrequent absences for non-medical reasons, such as a trip to the barber or to attend religious service. A need for adult day care does not keep you from qualifying for home health care.

Q: Does that mean I have to stay in my home?

A: No, you can leave for basic things, such as doctor visits, church and grocery shopping. You must, however, be assisted by another person.

Q: If I am an active or independent person do I not qualify for home care?

A: If you are active, and/or are driving yourself you will not qualify for skilled services in the home, under Medicare part A services. If you need physical therapy and are active you may qualify for Medicare part B services.

Q: What are Medicare part B services?

A: With the correct diagnosis, an active person in need of physical therapy may qualify for physical therapy in the home under Medicare part B. Services covered are equivalent to outpatient therapy, but take place in the more comfortable setting of your own home, instead of in a clinic. This applies to physical, occupational, and speech therapy services. Keep in mind that Medicare part B does have co-insurance and a deductible.

Q: If I qualify for Home Care, how often do you come to my home and how will you treat my condition?

A: Our experienced team of staff, including expert therapists, nurses and other specialized clinical workers will, with your input and coordination with your physician, develop a plan customized to your needs. We believe that every plan should be personalized to get you back in good health and keep you living the independent lifestyle that you want.

Q: What is Anodyne Therapy?

A: Anodyne therapy is infrared light therapy that assists in the reduction or elimination of pain and promotes faster healing of wounds, injuries and surgeries. It has also been shown to be an excellent treatment for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy. This type of therapy has been around approximately seven years in skilled facilities. We are one of the few home care agencies to utilize anodyne therapy in central Indiana. It is non-invasive and has been cleared by the FDA.

Q: Is Anodyne Therapy covered by Medicare?

A: We offer anodyne therapy into our wound care, physical therapy, and other nursing services to achieve a more positive patient outcome. Few other agencies use anodyne therapy, but, unfortunately, it is not covered by Medicare.

Q: What is Tele-health?

A: Tele-health services are a series of home monitoring units to remotely assist people in their home environments.

• We provide emergency alert services to give you peace of mind. These are of the type seen on television, that allow you to call for help in case of a household accident or other emergency.
• We offer medicine dispensing units that can be set to specific dates and times to dispense medications. This insures medication is taken properly and there is no risk of overdose.
• We also offer a web-based home monitoring unit that reads weight, blood sugar levels, blood pressure and oxygen levels in your blood. All these readings are monitored by our nursing staff via the web.
